Seat-cover safety
Deploy Safe Airbag Information
Choose the right seat cover, then fit it as instructed. Where a seat contains a side airbag, the cover’s suitability and positioning are part of the fitment check.
Deploy Safe
How Deploy Safe works
Vehicle airbags are designed by the vehicle manufacturer as part of the occupant-protection system. Where an airbag is mounted in the seat, a fitted cover must allow the designated deployment area to operate as intended.
Deploy Safe uses specialised thread and a controlled stitching process so the designated side seam can open when a seat-mounted airbag deploys. Check the selected product for its airbag-compatible construction and seat application.
This is a feature of the cover, not a replacement for the vehicle’s airbag system. It does not make an unsuitable cover compatible with a different seat.
Manufacturer information
Controlled construction and testing
Ilana, the manufacturer of the Deploy Safe system, describes a computer-controlled sewing process using specialised thread. It reports testing through recognised automotive laboratories in Australia and Europe across different seat sizes, side-airbag mechanisms and environmental conditions.
That supplier information explains the system. It does not replace the product-specific check for your vehicle, seat position and cover.
- Opening seams
- Ilana applies the controlled stitching to both outer side seams of applicable front bucket-seat covers so the cover can be oriented correctly to the seat.
- Quality control
- The supplier describes controlled thread and stitching specifications intended to keep the opening seam consistent through manufacture.
- Product records
- Supplier registration and product documentation can record the cover purchase. Keep the paperwork and instructions supplied with your set.
Fitment check
Check the cover and seat together
Match the product to the vehicle or seat type, seating position and headrest arrangement. Read the product’s airbag information and the instructions supplied with the set.
A universal cover still needs to match the correct seat type. A made-to-fit cover still needs the stated vehicle configuration. Ask the team when a detail is unclear before ordering or fitting.
Vehicle orientation
Common airbag locations in a passenger vehicle
Airbag locations vary between vehicles and seating positions. Use this diagram as general orientation only, then check the vehicle handbook and the information supplied by the vehicle manufacturer.
Correct positioning
Fit and maintain the designated seam correctly
Follow the fitting instructions and any driver/passenger labels. Position and secure the cover as directed, keeping the designated airbag seam in the correct place. Incorrect fitting can affect airbag inflation.
Do not alter, reinforce or re-sew the opening seam. If it opens for any reason, do not repair it for reuse. After the side airbag activates, discard the cover and arrange a replacement.
If a cover has moved, reposition it correctly. Replace it if wear prevents it from staying in its intended position. Ask for help when the fit is unclear.
Other seat systems
Other seat features need their own checks
Airbag compatibility does not confirm suitability for heated, ventilated or sensor-equipped seats. Check the exact product and your vehicle’s requirements.
All Tuff Skin seat covers are ISOFIX compatible. Seatbelts, buckles, ISOFIX and child-restraint anchors remain separate checks: keep access to applicable factory anchors unobstructed, and never place cover material or fastening between a restraint connector and its factory anchor. A cover does not add, replace or certify restraint anchor points.

Questions about safety and fit
How does Deploy Safe work?
Applicable covers use specialised thread and controlled stitching at the designated side seam. The seam is intended to open when the seat-mounted side airbag deploys. Correct product selection, orientation and fitting remain essential.
Has Deploy Safe been tested?
Ilana reports that Deploy Safe has been tested through recognised automotive laboratories in Australia and Europe across a range of seat sizes, side-airbag mechanisms and environmental conditions. This is supplier information; always confirm the selected product is specified for your seat application.
Was Deploy Safe tested on a car like mine?
The supplier describes testing across groups of seat sizes and airbag mechanisms rather than a separate test for every vehicle. Match the exact cover to the listed vehicle, seat position and configuration, and ask Classic Fit when the application is unclear.
How long does the guarantee last?
Warranty periods vary by product. The current product listing, packaging and supplied documentation state the workmanship warranty that applies to your set. A warranty period is not a blanket guarantee of airbag deployment.
Does one airbag label apply to every product?
Check the selected cover and the seating position it is intended for. Do not transfer a statement from one product to a different set or configuration.
Does the workmanship warranty guarantee airbag performance?
The workmanship warranty and safety instructions cover different matters. Check the applicable product documentation rather than treating the warranty duration as a guarantee of deployment.
